Baltimore’s last adult movie theater closes
BALTIMORE, MD — The Apex Theatre could return to legitimate usage now that it has closed as an adult theatre. There are no announced plans for the 1942 gem but the owner is open to renting it out.

Few movie options left for Missoula
MISSOULA, MT — With the closing of the Village 6, only the Carmike 12 is left for mainstream movies in Missoula. Carmike has not reported on the reason for the closure but without stadium seating and digital projection, it’s pretty clear that updates were necessary.

Riverdale 10 to close
LITTLE ROCK, AR — After almost 20 years in business, the Riverdale 10 has announced it will close. Carmike initially opened the property but it’s been independently owned for awhile. No reason for the closure has been reported.

Viva blames AMC for closure
HOUSTON, TX — The Viva Cinema opened seven months ago with the hope of serving the community with a mix of first-run Hollywood features with Spanish subtitles and Latin American films entirely in Spanish. They’ve now closed and argue that it’s the result of AMC blocking them from showing certain films. Their nearby Studio 30 also started offering subtitled films right before Viva’s opening.

Strand movie theater closes doors after 84 years
ATMORE, AL — What was said to be the longest continually operating theatre in te state, the Strand, closed last weekend. The owner reported that he simply couldn’t compete with a new upscale theatre at a nearby casino. There is hope it will be revitalized for another purpose.

Lights dim for the Starlite
MITCHELL, SD — After 60+ years, the Starlite Drive-In has closed following declining profits and an inability to convert to digital. Locals came in droves for the final weekend but the future for the site is unclear.

Tri-City 8 set to close
LARGO, FL — The Tri-City 8 is closing its doors later this year as the aging Tri-City Plaza undergoes a major redevelopment. The theatre has stood there since 1986 and there are no plans for it to be replaced.

American Theater to close this weekend
BRONX, NY — After a historic reopening five years ago, the American Theater is closing tomorrow. The stunning original lobby of the John Eberson gem stayed mostly intact all these years. But Bow-Tie, most recent operator of the cinema was not able to renew their lease. It was one of the only operating theaters in the Bronx. There are no announced plans on the building’s future.

Silver Screen is no more
PENSACOLA, FL — The beloved Silver Screen Theatre has closed after over thirty years in business. They even offered food and alcohol but their robust business couldn’t support the cost of new projectors.

Ramsey Cinema closes
RAMSEY, NJ — The Ramsey Cinema closed the other week after the owner of 30 years sold the property. It could still reopen but the new owner hasn’t announced plans yet. The theatre has been operating for close to 90 years.
