West Rome Drive-in closes
ROME, NY — The plan was to keep the drive-in open but changing technology and lagging sales spelled the end for the West Rome Drive-In. The 60+ year-old cinema will not reopen this summer and there is no word on the future of the site.

Will the dome open once more?
SAN JOSE, CA — Fans came out in droves last Sunday for the final screening at the Century 21. The famous domed theatre is supposed to be torn down but there’s still some hope left it will have a future.

Curtains for Lakeview’s movie theater
LAKEVIEW, OR — Open since 1940, the Alger Theatre has shut its doors due to lack of digital projection. There simply has not been the support for the theatre which still has its original seats. With few options, they’d gotten into the habit of showing a film for three or four weeks at a time.

Curtains to close on the Clova Cinema
CLOVERDALE, CANADA — No exact date is set for it but it appears the Clova Cinema will stop showing movies this summer. A church is purchasing it and renovating it to the point where presenting films will not be practical. The theatre had been struggling to operate without digital projection.

Meadows Theater closes
TERRE HAUTE, IN — The Meadows 1 & 2 has been delighting audiences since the early 1970’s but it was forced to close Sunday. They could not afford to provide digital projectors for their screens. Also, with films being released on DVD sooner than ever, their bargain cinema model just didn’t work anymore.

Lincoln Theatre to close after almost 100 year run
PORT ANGELES, WA — The Lincoln Theatre has had its fair share of ups and downs in its 98 years but a digital conversion was just not something it could handle. This Sunday will be its final day of business but its employees will thankfully be relocated to other nearby theaters. The owners hope to find a party to purchase the venue and still maintain most of its features.

Bellis Fair closes
BELLINGHAM, WA — Hinted at last month and now a reality, the Bellis Fair 6 has closed. Their lease is expiring and they hadn’t jumped to digital yet. The plan is to redevelop the space into three separate entities.

Moviegoers say goodbye to the Saginaw 12
SAGINAW MI — After 40 years in operation, the Saginaw 12, originally the Quad, closed its doors after the last shows Sunday. Moviegoers saw a video montage of the history of the Quad/Saginaw 12 in the lobby and some lucky moviegoers went home with pieces of the theaters' screens with the opening and closing dates stamped on the screen fragments.
Invited moviegoers will get a sneak peak at its replacement, the Quality 10 GDX, for a set of benefit screenings on Thursday before the new state of the art cinema opens to the general public on Friday. The Saginaw 12 will be torn down. Both theaters are owned by Goodrich Quality Theaters.

Saginaw moviegoers bid farewell to the Saginaw 12
SAGINAW, MI — This is the final weekend that the Saginaw 12 will be open. The theatre’s owner, Goodrich Quality Theaters, has setup displays explaining the history of the theatre. It first opened in 1974 as the Quad with four screens. Moviegoers are encouraged to take photos and will have a chance to win a piece of one of the Saginaw 12’s screens with the opening and closing dates stamped on the screen fragment. The Saginaw 12 will be torn down. Its replacement next door, the Quality 10 GDX will open the following Friday.

Carmike moving out of Valley Square
LA CROSSE, WI — Carmike and mall officials couldn’t reach a deal on the Valley Square 6 and it is now scheduled to close. The theatre recently made upgrades too.
