Landmark closes San Francisco’s Lumiere Theater
SAN FRANCISCO, CA — Landmark closed the 45 year old Lumiere Theatre last weekend. While often criticized for its comfort, it had an esteemed history of successful independent cinema presentations, especially in the mid-90’s.

Imlay City theater closes
IMLAY CITY, MI — The Imlay City Cinemas have closed due to escalating financials that couldn’t be covered by the business brought in. Despite a loyal local following, it wasn’t enough to pay for converting his three screens to digital.

Cottage View Drive In to be replaced with a Wal-Mart
COTTAGE GROVE, MN — After 46 years, the Cottage View Drive-In will be closing this fall to make way for a Walmart, something hinted at for months. The shopping center will swallow the theatre that the owner has been trying to sell for years due to declining revenue and the lack of funds to convert to digital.

Chief Theater in Steamboat Springs closes
STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, CO — The Chief Plaza 4 has closed after more than 70 years. There is no word on if another operator will step in to run it.

LaPorte cinema closes again
LAPORTE, IN — The LaPorte Cinemas closed again due to lack of business. It’s closed three times in three years and experienced numerous upgrades but the city’s only theater just couldn’t make ends meet.

Cinedome 7 closes after three decades
NEWARK, CA — Lowering ticket prices a couple months ago just wasn’t enough to keep the Cinedome 7 open. With a new Century theatre opening recently nearby, they just couldn’t compete. There’s a town meeting tonight on the future of the NewPark Mall development.

Closing of the Leesburg Tally Ho Theatre
LEESBURG, VA — The 81-year old Tally Ho Theatre in downtown Leesburg is set to close just after Labor Day, a victim of the shift to digital projection presentation only demanded by the major studios. The organization managing the property are contemplating using the site for live performances on the order of the State Theatre in Falls Church.

Frank Theatres closing Beach Stadium 5; theater to be razed
BEACH HAVEN, NJ — The Beach Stadium 5 will be torn down after the end of the summer season to make way for a supermarket. The Long Beach Island theater has weathered many trends since it opened in 1965 but the seasonal business just wasn’t cutting it anymore.

Seoul’s last 1-screen cinema plays classic finale; theater operator shaves her head in grief
SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA — The last of a generation, the Seodaemun Art Hall screened its last film the other week as it will be torn down for a hotel. It was the last single-screen theatre left in Seoul and the low-priced revival house was popular with senior citizens.
