New Lubbock theatre to feature IMAX
LUBBOCK, TX — Over two years in the making, the Premiere Cinemas at the South Plains Mall is slated to open this month. They’ll feature the largest IMAX in West Texas as well as D-Box seats.

Theater operators not planning on raising ticket prices for 48 fps showings of “The Hobbit”
Moviegoers can breathe a sigh of relief as exhibitors aren’t expected to raise prices for 3-D 48 fps showings of “The Hobbit”. The number of theaters that will debut this technology will be minimal and the debate will rage on about the value of it.

Kingsbridge Armory could become home to the first 4-D theater in the U.S.
BRONX, NY — Young Woo & Associates, a local developer, along with CJ 4DPLEX are looking at putting the country’s first 4D theater in a potential development at the Kingsbridge Armory. This would just be one component along with multiple ice skating rinks and a marketplace.

City of Aurora seeks citizen about what should happen to the Century 16
AURORA, CO — The town of Aurora is trying to get past the tragedy that happened this summer at the Century 16. They’ve now begun discussions on what may take its place, from remodeling the theatre to donating it to a non-profit group for multi-faith studies.

Researchers in South Korea are creating technology that could lead to 3-D without glasses. It could lead to a reduction in costs for projection but all the details haven’t been ironed out.

Galaxy Theatres to open eight-screen ‘plex in October
HENDERSON, NV — Galaxy is opening aneight-screen theatre at Green Valley Town Center that they hope will revitalize the shopping center. It will take the place of the former Green Valley Theatre and feature stadium seating and possibly alcohol.

Meadowview Theatre presents next Midnight Movie: Ferris Bueller’s Day Off
KANKAKEE, IL — Midnight at the Meadowview continues into September in celebration of Meadowview’s 45th Anniversary. The next decade featured during this midnight movie series will be the hip Eighties with the 1986 John Hughes classic “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” (PG-13). The film is slated for September 14th at midnight and will be shown using Meadowview’s state-of-the-art 4k digital projection and sound technology. Tickets are $5.50 per person and available at the Meadowview box office. The Meadowview Theatre is located at 55 Meadowview Center.
“Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” is a true coming of age story that follows the quick witted teenage mastermind Ferris Bueller (played by Mathew Broderick), who feigns ill and refuses to go to school. By employing theatrical and elaborate tricks in order to convince both his resentful sister and his suspicious that he is truly unwell. With his girlfriend Sloan, and best friend Cameron, the trio tours the Chicago area, glimpsing landmarks such as Wrigley Field and The Art Institute in attempts to seize the day, and escape their pursuers.

Couple plan to turn long-abandoned former Community Theater into airdome-type theater
ST. AUGUSTINE, FL — The run down Community Theater is about to be the site for a completely new venture, a dinner theatre. Paul and Rebecca Morris plan on leaving the roof off the theatre and building a garden to surround it.

Garden Theatre announces 2012-13 Live Season
WINTER GARDEN, FL — The Garden Theatre, now in its fourth year of very successful operation after re-opening in 2008, will present a full slate of live theatre and musicians beginning in October.
“Legally Blonde, The Musical” plays October 5-28. November 30-December 16 will feature “A Christmas Survival Guide”. “Biloxi Blues” is February 8-24, and “Children of a Lesser God” plays March 15-30. The annual very popular community production will be “The Wizard of Oz”, April 19-May 26. In addition, the Orlando Ballet will present performances in November, January and March. Popular professional musicians are featured in November, January, March, and April.

Rosebud Cinema and Drafthouse set to reopen
WAUWATOSA, WI — The Rosebud Cinema Drafthouse is reopening this week after a half year of renovations. Under new ownership, the refreshed theatre plans to feature some new undisclosed amenities.
