Free Film Series at the Count Basie today
RED BANK, NJ — The lovely Count Basie Theatre is open to the public today for a free screening of “Spongebob Square Pants”. There will be two shows at 2Pm and 7PM.

Sundance Cinemas to open in late August
WEST HOLLYWOOD, CA — The former Sunset 5 will reopen on August 31. The gutted theatre will now feature reserved stadium seating and they’re kicking it off with some special engagements.

Luxury IPic Theaters coming to Westwood’s Avco Center
LOS ANGELES, CA — The former AMC Avco is being converted into a luxury IPic theater. It will feature six screens, reserved seating and a full onsite restaurant.

CLEVELAND, OH — The 15th Annual Cinema Square festival continues this week at the Palace Theater. With screenings for $5 and a pre-show organ recital, viewers are in for a treat.

Drive-in theater to open soon
ST. JOSEPH, MO — Drive-ins may be slowing down but not in St. Joseph. The Cooke Brothers Drive-In recently opened after two years in the making. The family run chain also has a presence in Montana.

Agreement gets Wilmington movie theater back on track
WILMINGTON, DE — A lawsuit filed by Norfolk Southern Railway almost halted the construction of the Riverfront Multiplex. A potential additional parking garage that would have affected active train tracks was nixed following the lawsuit.

New small cinema in downtown Westport moves closer to reality
WESTPORT, CT — Westport has been without a cinema since 1999 but a loyal group called the Westport Cinema Initiative is getting closer to filling that void. They are close to securing a piece of land for a potential art-house theatre.

Empire Theatre could close
BLOCK ISLAND, RI — The seasonal Empire Theatre is facing closure because it can’t afford a digital projector. They’d like to fundraise but being a for-profit business in a summer town, they have an uphill battle.

Cinedome 7 closes after three decades
NEWARK, CA — Lowering ticket prices a couple months ago just wasn’t enough to keep the Cinedome 7 open. With a new Century theatre opening recently nearby, they just couldn’t compete. There’s a town meeting tonight on the future of the NewPark Mall development.

Former Ord Theater transformed into restaurant and mixed use venue
ORD, NE — The former Valley Cinema reopened the other week to much fanfare. The multi-use venue will have a full restaurant on site.
