Update on The Ziegfeld: ‘The Master’ doesn’t help
NEW YORK, NY — Despite a top-notch presentation of “The Master ”, the Ziegfeld is still not packing them in like they used to due to local competition. Cablevision is actively looking to sell the Clearview chain while the owners of the theatre watch the situation closely.

Silver screen coming back in Brady
BRADY, TX — Brady will soon have a local cinema again with the return of the Palace Theatre. New owners have been painstakingly renovating it back to its former glory so it can be used for movies as well as live events.

Angelika movie theater opening in Fairfax
FAIRFAX, VA — After being discussed for two years the new Angelika Film Center is opening. Like their counterparts, they’ll be featuring a cafe along with post-show entertainment like Q&A’s.

Trying times for the Portage Theater
CHICAGO, IL — The drama continues at the Portage Theater as the new owner, Erineo “Eddie” Carranza has served an eviction notice to the current occupants. When the existing management will have to leave is up for debate and the local alderman could even be holding up their acquiring a liquor license.

Midway turns 70 today
FOREST HILLS, NY — The UA Midway Stadium 9 is celebrating 70 years today with a special screening of “Rear Window” to benefit the Alzheimer’s Association. The late Thomas Lamb creation has weathered many changes but still stands as a tribute to veterans.

Shaquille O'Neal is the now the owner of the Cityplex 12
NEWARK, NJ — Basketball icon Shaquille O'Neal has moved into theater ownership in retirement. He’s taken over the Cityplex 12 in his hometown of Newark following an extensive renovation that added six screens.

Williamsburg Cinemas to open for holidays
WILLIAMSBURG, NY — The Williamsburg Cinemas in the works since 2010 has been delayed again but should be ready to open for the holidays. The seven-screen multiplex from the same people that brought you the Cobble Hill Cinemas will show a mix of indie and mainstream films.

Curtain may fall on classic movie house dream
WESTWOOD, NJ — The revival house hinted at two months ago may not come to fruition in Westwood after all. Supposedly holding it up is a legal threat from the Westwood Theater which is arguing that the new theatre would go against zoning regulations.

Imlay City theater closes
IMLAY CITY, MI — The Imlay City Cinemas have closed due to escalating financials that couldn’t be covered by the business brought in. Despite a loyal local following, it wasn’t enough to pay for converting his three screens to digital.
