The Fenton Cinema opened in 1985 as a twin screen cinema. It was located in an industrial park, off Owen Road. Operated as an independent, it eventually added more screens.
The Fenton Cinema closed on December 7, 2008, a victim of the economic downturn. It was demolished in September/October 2013.

Here’s a video on the closure of Fenton. It’s very unknown what will happen. They may tear it down to put a Wal-Mart or a Residential complex with Strip Mall or Someone may buy it out and used it as a learning center for Kindergartners or resurrect it with a little renovation and expansion.
There is a plan to reopen this theater as a multifunctional entertainment center described in this article.
I have doubts about the one potential owner who wants to make a a multifunctional entertainment center. Reading the article, the bank which owns the multiplex has received inquiries from established theater owners. I would rather have it run by such a theater chain, but it would need major renovations first to be competitive.
The management of the US 23 Drive-in would like to reopen this cinema and has set up a Facebook page to gauge interest at https://www.facebook.com/FentonMovie
The effort by the management of the US 23 Drive-in has failed and the property is back on the market. A Kalamazoo couple that currently operates a small independent multiplex in Kalamazoo is interested in operating the theaer and has launched a fund-raising effort, so far with mimimal results. One also has to wonder if they would be able to raise the additional funds to convert the projection to digital as well as those needed for renovations.
