How modern theaters show classic movies

Hi, I’m new to this forum, Great site with a ton of information, I know I’m not the first to have this idea and most likley there are people out there doing this but, what does it take to have a modern movie theater and show only classic or older movies? This has been a dream of mine for awhile now, I collect vintage movie posters and reels and other movie related stuff, could not find any info on this.

    Thanks,
    John

    Question for the experts

    Can you help?

Theatre Historical Society frequently get these kinds of questions, and we know the answers at this point are largely anecdotal. So, here goes….

We’d like to build a database of theaters across the country that are privately owned by the same family who built them and are currently operational!

    Please with:
The name of oldest theater you know of (theater’s official name)
    The year it opened
    The family who owns/operates it
A website if they have one

  • Eastland Lyric photo

We are trying to refurbish the Lyric Theatre in Eastland, TX and while the State of TX will help, they require a photograph of the original outside of the building.

If anyone knows how I might find such a photograph – by snail mail or email – please let me know.
It is very important to our town to get this done to preserve an important part of our history.

    Thanks,
    Martha Elliott

    Mystery theater in Denver

I am looking for information on a movie theater in Denver, CO. I believe it was called the Federal Theater and went out of business within the last few years. It was located on the corner of Federal and 38th street in North Denver. I can’t seem to find any information on its operation when it was open or its closing, or whether it is salvageable.

I have checked local newspapers, real estate companies, and talked to locals with no luck. Any info on the current selling/renting of the property would be great.

    Thanks

    Theatre needs a director

NORWALK, OH — The Norwalk Main Street Theatre, in an effort to provide the community with great live performing theatre is looking for an experienced Director(s) that can bring community theatre back to the area. This position is unique in that the right person(s) will be willing to work on commission. Our success is your success. The expense of the show and the profits of the show will be split between the Director and the theatre.

There are several benefits: It will allow more than one Director to work at the Norwalk Main Street Theatre, bringing different flairs and directing styles and choices to the stage. It will also mean that you can keep your day job while pursuing your other passion on a part part-time basis. We are open to all sorts of ideas for live theatre. This could be your chance to bring the script that you have written to the stage, or put on a musical Revue using local talent. The possibilities are as endless as your imagination.

If this sounds interesting to you, please .

How to fly a screen for live shows?

We have a quonset hut and partial stage that is pretty much useless. If we could fly the screen out of the way somehow, it would make for a larger backstage and more practical to use for live shows.

I know this isn’t the first time this has come up and I am wondering what others do in this case. Obviously we don’t want to ruin our screen by leaving it in place during a live show (even with curtain pulled), but removing it and reinstalling it over and over is going to damage it anyway. So…what’s the secret??

    Re-Opening a historic single-screen, but need help!

There is a historic one screen theatre that closed last week due to bankruptcy and I am very seriously considering purchasing and re-opening it. But I need some guidance to figure out how I can make it a viable operation. I have all the information about the business and the building but I’m not sure whether to spend money on fixing it up right away or not. Also whether to run first run movies or go with films that have been out a couple weeks.

It has almost 300 seats. It’s in a small community that supports and wants this theatre. It’s not in terrible shape but has some issues. I see it as a very viable business opportunity, not to mention how nice it would be to keep in the community!

    Recent live theatre conversions

Can anybody recommend web sites for theaters that have recently been converted to live performance venues, especially where the auditorium has been gutted or modernized to a 2000 seat-sized live hard top proscenium theater?
