Opened October 11, 1915 with a stage production of the play “When Knights were Bold”. The Majestic Theatre was a classic vaudeville house which continued showing everything from travelling stage shows to classic films.

It was remodeled and renamed Paramount Theatre, reopening on August 29, 1930 with the Four Marx Brothers in “Animal Crackers”. It was last operated as a first run movie theatre by ABC Interstate Theatres who closed it on April 10, 1975 with Robert Mitchum in “The Yakusa”.

It reopened on April 27, 1975 screening classic movies and stage shows on April 27, 1975. A new marquee was added in around 2000.

Here is a photo taken the night the new blade was lite. We celebrated the new blade along with our 100th birthday. Originally opened Oct. 11, 1915. The blade lighting event was Sept 23, 2015. https://flic.kr/p/z3VmuG

I’ve come across an early `50s photo of what appears to be a Stanford Theatre on Congress near 2nd Street, but can find no record of it anywhere. Looks to be a small marquee beneath a vertical sign. Anyone hear of it?

ABC Interstate Theatres last operated the Paramount before closing as a first-run movie theater on April 10, 1975 with “The Yakuza”. The Paramount reopened with a mix of classic movies and stage shows on April 27, 1975 screening the 1941 classic “Citizen Kane” as its first show after reopening.
