Movies at the Museum
DAYTON, OH — The Dayton Art Institute has partnered with the Cinema Arts Society of the Greater Dayton Area to present classic films at the museum, in the beautiful NCR Renaissance Auditorium. The series began on March 12 and presents films on the second and fourth Wednesday of each month through May. A second series is being planned for the fall and will be announced this summer.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and all films begin at 7:00 p.m Tickets may be purchased the night of the movie at the museum’s Guest Services Desk. Traditional moview popcorn and snack will be available. A cash bar is also available.

Boyd Theatre demolition begins
PHILADELPHIA, PA — It didn’t take long for iPic to start working on the interior of the Boyd Theatre following the Philadelphia Historical Commission’s decision last week to grant them a demolition permit. Friends of the Boyd still hopes to appeal the decision but that hearing isn’t until April 1.

Passionate fans fight to save the Zoe
PITTSFIELD, IL — They have gotten on the National Register last year but there is still plenty to be done at the Zoe Theatre. The Zoe Preservation Society hopes to reopen it as full time movie theater but it hasn’t shown a film in 20 years.

Riverside Drive-In Theatre to Host 2nd Annual APRIL GHOULS DRIVE-IN MONSTER-RAMA!
VANDERGRIFT, PA — For eight years in a row, we’ve brought back the fun in going to the drive-in, with our annual, award-winning September DRIVE-IN SUPER MONSTER-RAMA event. Now, for a second year in a row, the Riverside Drive-In Theatre is bringing the same retro thrills to their giant outdoor screen with the 2014 APRIL GHOULS DRIVE-IN MONSTER-RAMA! Like the September spectacular, this is two nights of classic horror and monster 35mm prints presented at an authentic drive-in movie theater. There will be two big shows on two consecutive nights which will start at dusk and go on until really late into the night! We have some very special treats in store, so we encourage all drive-in movie fanatics to travel from near and far, as you’re not going to find anything else like it, anywhere!
What could be better than a weekend getaway topped off with two nights of classic monster movies on the big outdoor screen? We realize that everything is so expensive these days, but admission is still only $10 a person each night! Plus, children 12 and under are free with parent or adult guardian. How can you beat that? The Riverside’s concession stand is loaded with reasonably priced goodies, including hot foods, hot and cold drinks, candy, popcorn and much more!

Abandoned theater sitting in Egypt
Death and Taxes is featuring shots of a theater setup not likely to be seen again. Supposedly, a wealthy man recently spent to bring vintage seats out into a spot in the middle of the desert for a movie theater. Plans fell through though and the project was never completed. The remnants still live on.

Remnants of Times Square’s Loew’s Mayfair Theater
NEW YORK, NY — With the recent closing of the souvenir store it housed, the former Mayfair Theatre is now hanging in the balance. Untapped Cities took a look inside at some of the features still existing from its previous usage as a theatre as much was lost following a 2007 renovation.

Connecticut could be first state to curb loud movies
Connecticut is turning heads by proposing legislation that lower the volume in its movie theaters. They’re pushing for a maximum of 85 decibels for movies or previews but the MPAA is fighting back by saying it’s a violation of free speech.

East Side theater wins state grant
BUFFALO, NY — The former Varsity Theatre just received a state grant for $150K which they plan to use to extensively renovate the interior and exterior. Everything from new seats to new plumbing await the venue that will be use for live performances and occasional screenings.
