PHILADELPHIA, PA — It didn’t take long for iPic to start working on the interior of the Boyd Theatre following the Philadelphia Historical Commission’s decision last week to grant them a demolition permit. Friends of the Boyd still hopes to appeal the decision but that hearing isn’t until April 1.

This makes me sick.
A dreadful decision for such an iconic cinema
Why bother with an appeal. By the time its heard ipic would have 2 weeks to destroy the interior. And once its destroyed, theres no turning back.
How sadly terrible, the Boyd Theatre was my favorite destination as a young lad I spent a lot of time at that Theatre I saw lots of great movies there with my girlfriend who is now my wife for 30 years now, its sad to see it go, the building may be demolished but the memories still remain in my life.
I had come to terms with the theater being torn down, but the lobby, too? I wonder what happens when the asinine trend of theater eateries fail. But too late, theater gone!
I don’t know how they could claim there is no way for this theatre to operate profitably. There are houses this large in much smaller cities that operate at a profit.
What’s next for Philly, tearing down Independence Hall to build a Wal Mart?
Yes theatres this large and old operate around the country still. Examples-The Paramount and the 5th Avenue and Moore and Neptune. All in Seattle. All are elaborate and old and used for live entertainment successfully.
