Rogers 6 to add 3D screen
STEVENS POINT, WI — Rogers Cinema 6 is getting even better with the opening of an additional 232 seat theater for 3D films. It was supposed to open last month but the project got pushed back due to weather.

The ‘dome’ remembered
PLEASANT HILL, CA — The beloved CineArts may be gone along with its unforgettable dome but its image could live on. The developer of the site announced plans to commemorate the theatre through a tile mural, a bronze plaque and eight pavers stamped with a drawing of the dome. These features will be in various locations around the new building.

Lincoln Theatre to close after almost 100 year run
PORT ANGELES, WA — The Lincoln Theatre has had its fair share of ups and downs in its 98 years but a digital conversion was just not something it could handle. This Sunday will be its final day of business but its employees will thankfully be relocated to other nearby theaters. The owners hope to find a party to purchase the venue and still maintain most of its features.

Theater owners abandon Mallory Brook Cinema Nine
BARKHAMSTED, CT — Nothing but a handwritten sign spelled the end for the Mallory Brook Cinema 9 which abruptly closed in October. Its former operator, Cinema Holdings Group has been unavailable for comment but the property owner is trying to bring a new one in.

Gun Barrel City movie theater to reopen
GUN BARREL CITY, TX — Hometown Cinemas is taking over the former Moviestar Cinema, bringing films back to Cedar Creek Lake after the closure last summer. Sony Digital 4K projection will be on all eight screens and they hope to reopen it in time for summer. They will also offer space for private events.

Eureka at 75
EUREKA, CA — The Eureka Theater is celebrating its 75th Anniversary next month with an exciting program for its fans. Starting at Noon on Saturday, they’re presenting 12-hour 1939 movie marathon as an ode to their birth year. They’re going back in time with prices too with all day tickets ranging from 10 to 35 cents!

Meyer Theatre announces $3 million downtown expansion
GREEN BAY, WI — The Meyer Theatre has been in great shape for a while but now its neighbors are getting an update. The Backstage at the Meyer project will renovate the adjacent spaces to add banquet and office space and even a small performance stage.

11th Hour offer to purchase Boyd Theatre
PHILADELPHIA, PA — With a Historical Commission meeting to decide the future of the Boyd Theatre looming on Thursday, an anonymous donor has stepped in offering to purchase the theatre for $4.5 Million. This technically should block Live Nation’s sale to another buyer based on the argument of it not being financially viable but the commission will make the final call.

Cinema reservation gone bad
We try to stick to the focus of raising awareness for unique, specific theaters. This story, from TIME about a group that tried to purchase every other seat at a movie theater in Shanghai to discourage couples from attending, was just too bizarre to pass up though.

Golden State Theatre million dollar price reduction
MONTEREY, CA — Today the Golden State Theatre Complex has been reduced in price a million dollars to $3,990,000. The prime downtown Monterey building includes three restaurants, two more retail shops, two floors of office / creative space and the 1,000 seat theater in a street-to-street 27,570 square foot building. The new price equates to $145 per square foot for the owner-occupied performing arts center supplemented with over $170,000 per year in rental income from the retail storefronts and restaurants. There is also close to 4,000 square feet of vacant office or creative space ideal for conversion to residential apartments.
