Golden State Theatre million dollar price reduction
MONTEREY, CA — Today the Golden State Theatre Complex has been reduced in price a million dollars to $3,990,000. The prime downtown Monterey building includes three restaurants, two more retail shops, two floors of office / creative space and the 1,000 seat theater in a street-to-street 27,570 square foot building. The new price equates to $145 per square foot for the owner-occupied performing arts center supplemented with over $170,000 per year in rental income from the retail storefronts and restaurants. There is also close to 4,000 square feet of vacant office or creative space ideal for conversion to residential apartments.

Raising the curtain on the Cary
CARY, NC — The Cary Theater will open to the public this weekend after a $6.2 million dollar renovation and expansion which includes live shows and classic movies. The project on the 1946 theater took over a year and the theatre has never looked better.

The clock is ticking for the Rialto
GRAYLING, MI — The almost 100 year-old Rialto Theater needs $20K in the next week to stay open. They’ve launched a Kickstarter page but the window has almost shut. They not only want to buy a new projector but also update many key features of the theatre.

Digital Bits cebebrates “Sweet Charity” at 45
Michael Coate has written another great piece over at the Digital Bits for the 45th Anniversary of “Sweet Charity.” He provides a detailed account of all its roadshow engagements as well as an interview with a number of film historians on that almost forgotten distribution format.

Historic drive-in for sale
GRANBURY, TX — The 60-year old Brazos Drive-In is for sale from its owner of 28 years. They haven’t converted to digital yet but they hope to show whatever 35mm films they can get this upcoming season. Price tag: $575K.

Developer plans to renovate the Madison Theatre
PEORIA, IL — A local investment group, NXG Developments, is proposing to purchase the Madison Theatre and extensively renovate it. They not only want to bring the theatre back in one form or another but also have plans for the neighboring buildings.

Waynesville movie theater seeks help creating historical timeline
WAYNESVILLE, NC — The Strand Theatre is building a timeline of its history in its hallway and is looking for participation in filling it in. Anyone with memories or photos is encouraged to contact them asap.

Fifth Forum repurposed as office
ANN ARBOR, MI — The former Fifth Forum’s cinema days are long gone but its next chapter will be as an office space for local tech company Nutshell. They’ve signed a three year lease and the space is in the process of being completely renovated for the purpose.

Shankweiler’s Drive-in goes digital
OREFIELD, PA — One of the oldest drive-ins in the country Shankweiler’s Drive-In has made the jump to digital and has chosen Barco for its projectors. The popular summer cinema opened up for its 80th season last year and continues to be family run by Paul and Susan Geissinger.
