Opened as the Circle S Drive-In in November 1950. It went through a few name changes and finally settled on Last Drive-In Picture Show. This is also one of eight “mo-peds” in America (both a motor theatre and a walk-in). An indoor cinema was added in 1972.
The drive-in is open seven days a week playing a double bill. It is very much a family oriented venue as it does not show any R rated films. Audio is provided on FM radio. Admission is $10 a carload on Fridays and Saturdays, $5 a carload on all other nights.

Cool name.
The Marquee that is used by this Drive In was originally used for the Tem-Bel Drive In Theatre, located in Temple Texas.. As seen here —> http://www.drive-ins.com/pictures/txtbeld002.jpg .. Here’s a photo I took today (Dec 17 2011) of the Last Picture Show.. Enjoy! http://www.flickr.com/photos/racphotography/6527586905 ..

Boxoffice, Nov. 18, 1950: “GATESVILLE, TEX. - The Circle-S Drive-In, 350-car situation, has been opened here by the Skelton brothers, owners of four theatres here. Work on the airer located on Highway 36, began in August.”
Operated by the Palmer Family and open 364 days a year (not Christmas). The Palmers added the indoor cinema in 1972. Its concession stand also services the Drive-In.
