News About This Theater
- Sep 19, 2007 — New owners for the 95 year old Texas Theatre
Built in 1912, this old theatre even though it has been closed since February 1983 looks well preserved. The all white front exterior has paint peeling and some discoloration but in good shape.
There is a colonade effect on each end of the front upper portion of the building. It still has the vertical spelling out “Texas”. The rectangular marquee is still in place but never had attraction panel, more or less like a canopy over the entrance. It stretches from one side of the building to the other.
The only color to the front of the Texas Theatre was the black tile that ran along the base and around the poster cases and front entrance doors.

A view of the Texas Theater taken in 1994. The building is dated 1912 at the top of and behind the Texas sign.
It is my understanding that this theatre is undergoing renovations and I have been told by a local teacher at McGregor High School that the owner has secured a theatre organ and is planning to have in installed.
Would love to have an update to this since I am currently working in McGregor. If this theatre is to be renovated, I would like to help volunteer.
There are plans to completely renovate the theater and make it suitable for many types of events from stage shows, concerts, movies old and new, possably weddings and receptions and yes pipe organ and other musical concerts may be possable. The theater organ is for sure. Check out the website of the new owner for more details. Lots of work needed but a job very possable and worth doing. Should be a great attraction for this city of 5,000 and the surrounding communities. Be sure to go to www.texastalkies.com Talk to your friends and neighbors and help make this a reality.
Just post a photo of the Texas Theatre. From Today (Dec 17 2011).. Enjoy!
