Earlier this year filmmaker Kevin Smith announced plans to extend his reign in the world of movies beyond just filmmaking but also to exhibition. The director teamed up with partners in the area to purchase The Atlantic Moviehouse in his native Atlantic Highlands, New Jersey, converting it to the Smodcastle Cinemas when the keys got handed over.
I drove past yesterday. Construction has begun on a low income senior appartment complex called The Livingston. The theaters facade has been saved and will be incorporated into the design. Uploaded photo.
Construction UPDATE: It has finally started. We are so excited for the upcoming upgrades that include: A second screen with 30 reclining seats, new main auditorium seats, upstairs bar seating, new windows/doors to let light in the bar areas, and many more. We will stay open for most of the renovations, so we can still show the summer blockbusters. If you have any questions, please ask any of the staff or email me at or give me a call at 614-226-4755. We will provide plenty of updates along the way. Thanks for making Studio 35 an amazing place to watch movies or just have a drink. Because of your support we are able to make the space even better.
Yes vintage Ohio it’s completely gone was torn down the next day after my post. They did recycle a lot of stuff before tearing it down. Don’t know where the doors went. I was thinking they could have recycled them for the Drexel Theater. Same kind of art deco style.
