The Avalon Theatre was opened on August 4, 1936 with Bobby Breen in “Let’s Sing Again”. It had a seating capacity of 510. It was closed in April 1958. On December 15, 1972 it reopened as the New Century Theatre.
It was renamed Marysville Cinema on October 15, 1976. It is a nice theatre located in the heart of downtown Marysville. It is a first-run theatre with admission just $4 at anytime.
The Marysville Cinema is family owned and operated by a local family since 2000. The largest screen seats approximately 200, with around 100 seats in the medium sized screen and 50 seats in the small screen. The folks here are always friendly and nice, and are always smiling. Some of the décor could be updated, but what they have done with the place since 2000 is wonderful.
The price of admission is extremely low in comparison to other theatres in surrounding cities. You can buy a ticket, drink and popcorn for next to nothing and still go home with money in your pocket. I am not sure how they do it, but they do.
The owners are a young couple with children and have always taken the time to talk or tell you about the movies. They take time to listen and it really feel like they want your business. I have stopped going to the larger theatres, and for the last five years have gone here to support them. All in all, I would give them and over 8 out of 10, only because of the décor, but everything else is top notch.
Sadly, the Marysville Cinema was closed in December 2009. Renovations were begun in April 2020 but on June 4, 2020 part of the auditorium collapsed. Renovations were hoped to be continued, but in September 2020 it was demolished. Plans are to build a new theatre on the site..

Renovation has begun!
Since rebuilding has begun to restore this to its art deco days can the admins change the name back to Avalon Theatre?
Bad news from Marysville. The auditorium of the Avalon Theatre partly collapsed on June 3, 2020 during renovations. Fortunately the collapse took place overnight, and there were no reported injuries. Spokespersons say the renovation project will go ahead despite the loss.
That should say June 4, not June 3.
Are they still planning on doing second run or repertory? When my wife and I were part of the project, it was going to be first run with the ability to do the occasional stage show, but then they changed their mind on what they wanted the theater to be. They’re targeting it more as a community center last I heard, concentrating on stage acts.
The theater has been completely demolished with plans for a full rebuild. Pic uploaded.
