The town hall in the center of Westerville served as the first movie theatre in the uptown district, costing no more than a dime and a nickel for a ticket. The State Theatre opened in 1927 with a contest featuring a $10 prize, enticing entrants to name the theatre. Since the theatre was on State Street, it was named the State Theatre. The theatre and the marquee atracted many Westerville moviegoers through the years. Sadly, the theatre became a furniture store. In late-December 2014 it was converted into a restaurant/bar, which had closed by summer of 2017. By early-2018 was in retail use. By early 2019 it was a barberque restaurant.

When did it close? I recall seeing listings for it in the Columbus Dispatch well into the 1970s, when I moved away from the area.

This theater still has its proscenium arch and projection room holes.
The state has a for sale sign up and the amish furniture store is moving up the street next year.

Theatre is for lease.
The State Theatre building is being converted into a bar and restaurant to be called the 8 State Bistro. They have a web site, but so far all it has is a front page. The first week of December was their original target for opening, but I don’t think it’s open yet.
Theater is again for lease. Utility bills not paid.
