website The Drive-In was established July 1956. The theater has been managed or owned by the Earlywine’s from the onset. Everett and Helen Earlywine purchased the drive-in in 1974. Larry and Patricia Earlywine purchased the drive-in in 1994. It has maintained it’s family friendly atmosphere by offering 2 first run movies on weekends from Spring to late Summer or early Fall.

Wichita is among a dwindling number of cities which still offers its lucky families the casual, relaxing experience of sharing DOUBLE- and TRIPLE-FEATURE MOVIES under the stars. While economic factors steadily cause other cities' drive-ins to be replaced with new businesses, Wichita families strongly support their last remaining drive-in. Why do they? A one-of-a-kind facility, it is one of the NICEST ones ever built anywhere. (The original owners insisted that it be completely FIRST CLASS.) One parent who often brings her children called it “a nostalgic treasure”. Kids LOVE It! No babysitter needed… bring jammies for the tots.

Chris1982 commented about Pageant Drive-In on Sep 23, 2014 at 10:17 pm

Some history on the Pageant Drive-In, The Pageant is located East of Medicine Lodge, Kansas, on Pageant Drive (Old Highway 160). The theatre was originally owned by Roy and May Colley, managed by their son, Craig, and opened in May of 1952. Owen Sill purchased and operated the Pageant from 1968 thru 1988, when the drive-in closed. Owen’s son, Mike Sill, re-opened the theater in 1995, installing FM Stereo broadcast equipment, and new projection equipment. The Pageant still has the speakers found at drive-ins, and many of those being used today are from different closed drive-ins, and still bear their logos. The Pageant Drive-In Theatre boasts a 275 car capacity, a 55' x 70' screen, and a fully operational Snack Bar, serving soft drinks, candy, hotdogs, hot buttered popcorn, as well as chili-dogs and nachos. The Pageant operates every Friday, Saturday and Sunday from April thru September. That is the correct address and google does map it. The drive-in did not open for the 2014 season because their fund raising fell short of the $70K goal.

The Esquire is actually located in Richmond Heights. Jerry Alexander, do you know anything about the Gaslight Square Cinema, from what I found it was located at Olive and Boyle which was the Gaslight Square area, in the what late 1950’s or early 1960’s. My best friends father had a few notes on the Cinema but sketchy.
