AMC Grand 24 will remain a movie theater after all
DALLAS, TX — After AMC didn’t renew the lease last year on the famous Grand 24, plans were up in the air for the future of the early megaplex. According to the Dallas Observer though, plans are in motion for half of it to reopen as the AmStar 14.

Howell Theater will re-open under new management
HOWELL, MI — No need to sound the alarm. Despite the drastic closing, the Howell Theater will reopen in October under new management. The Chandler Family loyally ran the theatre for years but just couldn’t keep it going anymore.

Owner of the Logan Theatre on the venue’s impending re-do
CHICAGO, IL — In an interesting Q&A, Mark Fishman, owner of the Logan Theatre discusses the thoughts behind his planned renovations. He’s cutting down on seats to make them roomier and not drastically raising prices. Oh yeah, and this is a second-run theater.

Cinerama Film Festival announced
SEATTLE, WA — Never disappointing, the Cinerama Film Festival at the Seattle Cinerama has been announced and will feature rare prints of “This is Cinerama” and “How the West Was Won” along with widescreen classics. As this is one of only three theaters in the world that can properly show Cinerama films, if you can, make the trip there for this special event.

Michaan’s not renewing theater lease
ALAMEDA, CA — Allen Michaan lovingly restored Auctions by the Bay after leasing it ten years ago but it’s never been particularly profitable for him. Now the hero theater owner is backing away from the property, putting it back in the hands of the city. While he hopes it will continue to be a community resource, it’s unclear how someone could make a feasible business out of it.
