Old Kalispell movie theater coming down
KALISPELL, MT — Things are not looking good for the former Gateway Cinemas. Pending inspections, the theatre, that’s been closed for a few years, will be demolished for a new parking lot and park.

Culver Plaza to close
CULVER CITY, CA — A mainstay in Culver City for many years, the discount Culver Plaza Theatres seems to have reached its final shows. One of the best bargains on the Westside will supposedly be converted into condos.

PF theater goes discount
POST FALLS, ID — Reluctantly, the Post Falls Cinema is going discount. They want to provide the best experience for their patrons but in these economic times, they felt that would entail more value.

Lake Theatre concludes classic 1936 film series
OAK PARK, IL — Lake Theatre’s Classic 1936 Film Series is coming to an end in December with the final film in the series, “Mr. Deeds Goes to Town,” slated for Monday, December 12th at 1 and 7 PM. The Classic 1936 Film Series was part of the Lake’s 75th anniversary celebration. “We appreciated the response for these wonderful classic movies,” said Shirley Johnson, owner of Classic Cinemas. The Lake Theatre is located at 1022 Lake Street in downtown Oak Park.
Winding up the celebration in December is “Mr. Deeds Goes to Town,” a comedy based on Clarence Budington Kelland’s story “Opera Hat.” Directed by Frank Capra and starring Gary Cooper and Jean Arthur in Arthur’s first featured role, the film takes place in the middle of the Great Depression with Longfellow Deeds (Cooper), a small town Vermonter who inherits $20 million from his late uncle. He promptly donates his inheritance to the needy, which leads to a courtroom hearing on his sanity. Deeds also manages to find time to fall in love with beautiful reporter and tough cookie, Babe Bennett (Arthur), who’s determined to fathom the good guy’s motivation. Happily, romance and “good Deeds” triumph in the end.

Revamped theater has grand opening
SPRINGFIELD, MO — The former Springfield 8 is now the Springfield 11 thanks to a renovation by ShowPlex Cinemas. It cost them $4.5M but there’s now an IMAX screen and digital projectors for every auditorium.

Mercy family plans to build Dinner Theatre in downtown Yakima
YAKIMA, WA — After the Uptown Plaza recently, the future of that parcel was in doubt. Now, Yakima Theatres Inc. has announced a new four-screen dinner theatre and pub to be built in its place.

Michael Moore talks about helping to organize restoration of Downtown Flint’s Capitol Theatre
FLINT, MI — While in Flint to promote his latest book “Here Comes Trouble”, which was on sale to benefit the Flint Public Library, Michael Moore talked about trying to restore the long-shuttered Capitol Theatre at his appearance at Whiting Auditorium on Tuesday, November 22. Moore said that he went over there to see them to see when they could get it open. He offered his assistance in fundraising to restore the John Eberson designed atmospheric theater based on his experience in restoring the State Theatre in Traverse City, MI.
