    Forest City’s movie theater to close soon unless buyer found

    FOREST CITY, IA — The Compston’s have been running the Forest Theatre for almost forty years but have been trying to sell it for the past three. Without a buyer in site or a local group in place to raise funds, it is set to close soon.

    Lindo Theatre presents “Meet Me In St. Louis”

    FREEPORT, IL — Enjoy the 1944 musical favorite, “Meet Me In St. Louis,” starring Judy Garland, on Wednesday, December 7th at 1 and 7 PM, playing at the Lindo Theatre, 115 S. Chicago Ave. Movie admission is $5 and complimentary for those who purchased the series tickets to the recently concluded Classic Screwball Comedy Film Series. This was the third series of classic films shown at the Lindo Theatre in partnership with the Stephenson County Historical Museum and Highland Community College. The next series is scheduled for January and brings classic Hitchcock films to the big screen.

    Holiday Film Festival at Tivoli

    DOWNERS GROVE, IL — The historic Tivoli Theatre in downtown Downers Grove brings holiday cheer to movie fans during its Annual Holiday Film Festival. This yearly tradition at the Tivoli, 5021 Highland Avenue, offers movie-lovers the rare opportunity to see their holiday favorites on the big screen in a beautifully restored 1928 movie palace. Mark your calendars for the first film of the series, “Holiday Inn,” starring Bing Crosby and Fred Astaire, on Sunday, December 11th at 7:00 and 9:30 PM.

    This year’s line up has something for everyone. It features Christmas classics, comedies and dramas. Guests who arrive early are encouraged to participate in a sing-a-long accompanied by Tivoli’s Wurlitzer theatre pipe organ. Tickets are available at the Tivoli Theatre Box Office.     Small-town movie theater goes digital

    HARMONY, MN — As reported in July, the Jem Theatre has been having some problems raising money for a digital conversion. Minnesota Today announced they were able to raise money for a used digital projection but still had to pay for the bulk of it on a loan.

    They’ll only be on the clear once they pay the money back and even then, they still need to continue building attendance. With so few people around the area period, the situation poses quite the challenge.

  • Tropic returns to downtown

    LEESBURG, FL — Downtown Leesburg is excited because of the reopening of the Tropic Theatre. Veteran owner Russ Brannan has spruced up the place and with lower prices than local competing mall theaters, it should provide a well-welcomed entertainment option.

    JERSEYVILLE, IL — A mainstay in downtown for over 60 years, the Stadium Theatre will be closing later this week. The twinned theatre has seen many owners over the years, most recently AMC. However, like so many of their theaters lately, due to under-performance, they chose to close it.
