After 72 years, St. Petersburg Beach’s theater closes
ST. PETERSBURG BEACH, FL — The Beach Theatre has closed after a failed attempt to achieve non-profit status. Hopefully a new owner can come in and save the beloved theatre that couldn’t survive even after cutting prices.

Three Stooges Festival at Glendale’s Alex Theater on Saturday
GLENDALE, CA — The popular Three Stooges Festival is returning to the Alex this Saturday with a series built around the filming locations of the pictures. Pre-show presentations and a book signing will also be part of the event.

Preservation group enables 96-year-old Hardacre Theater to move into the digital age
TIPTON, IA — The nonprofit Hardacre Theater Preservation Association has purchased the Hardacre Theatre. They plan to employ numerous fundraising efforts in order to convert the theatre to digital within the next few years.

New twin theater opens on Pine Ridge Indian Reservation
KYLE, SD — The Nunpa Theatre opened last week as the first theatre ever on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. The two-screen theater opened thanks to a loan from the Governor’s Office of Economic Development and will show movies Thursdays through Mondays.

Fall of the American Movie Palace Lecture returns to Brooklyn

Former American Theater razed
LEETONIA, OH — After almost 100 years with the past few decades in darkness, the American Theatre was razed. The asbestos contamination proved to be the last straw.

Student leads effort to upgrade, reopen Allred Theater
PRYOR, OK — Raymond Simpson, a 22 year old college student, is leading the charge to reopen the Allred Theatre. Even while going to school in California, he’s organizing an investment group to purchase and renovate the theatre.

Cinemark signs deal to buy Rave Cinemas
Cinemark is expanding its reach again with is purchase of Rave Cinemas over the weekend. After Carmike purchased 16 of their screens last month, Cinemark is now buying everything else from the chain that reportedly brought in $228 million in revenue last year.

Former Meridian 6 in Okemos MI being renovated to Studio C
OKEMOS, MI — The former AMC Meridian 6 Theatres outside the Meridian Mall is being renovated by the Celebration! Cinema theater chain to become the Studio C combination restaurant and movie theater which is slated to open on December 14.
