Update your email address
Greetings, Cinema Treasures fans!
Minor request: if you haven’t updated your email address in a while, can you please do so? We’ve been getting a lot of returned email from comment notifications, so I’d like to make sure we have the correct address for everyone.
Editing your email address is easy. Just login to your Cinema Treasures account, then click on the Profile page link at the top of your screen. Once there, enter the new email address and click ‘Update Profile’. That’s it!
Thanks,
PatrickPS: Worried about privacy? We will never send you spam or sell your email address.

Star-Ledger profiles Cinema Treasures
Today’s edition of the Star-Ledger has a nice writeup about Cinema Treasures.
If you’re curious about movie theaters old and new, their histories and untimely passings, Ross Melnick of Cinema Treasures has just about everything you need.
Melnick, who co-founded the Web site in Dec. 2000 with Patrick Crowley, presides over a vast network of movie house fans. It began with listings for 125 theaters and now Cinema Treasures has nearly 14,000 listings, including theaters in Afghanistan, Croatia and Papua New Guinea.
For those who do read the article, Ross points out: “I never said historic theaters can’t have digital sound, etc. I only said most cannot have stadium seating.”

Maps for European theaters!
Google Maps has just added detailed maps for Europe. So you know what that means… we now have maps for theaters in England, France, and elsewhere!
Here’s a sample map for the Odeon West End, for instance:

Since this is our first real test of European mapping, we probably have some bad address data. So if you know the correct address for your favorite European Cinema Treasure, please send it in!

Welcome back!
Hope everyone had a great holiday!
As you can see, Cinema Treasures is back online and hopefully a little bit speedier. While we can’t yet say we’ve licked our performance problems, we definitely made some great progress over the past few days.
Most significantly, theater pages are now being cached, which is helping reduce the load on our server quite a bit. We also made a number of other changes which hopefully will bear fruit over the coming days.
Thanks again for your patience!

More Cinema Treasures upgrades
We will be taking the site offline during the Thanksgiving holiday, so that we can take another stab at improving the performance of Cinema Treasures.
Specifically, the website will be offline from Wednesday through Sunday of this week, as we continue to overhaul Cinema Treasures. While we realize this may be an inconvenience to some of our users, it is perhaps the best time for us to make such an upgrade, as everyone is likely to be on holiday.
As before, we expect to make good progress on improving the scalabilty of this website, although there’s no guarantee this round of upgrades will completely solve our current challenges.
Stay tuned, theater fans! And Happy Thanksgiving!
