Opened around 1979 as a twin, this theater has had a number of operators over the years. It was closed on April 14, 3013. One of the final films to be screened was “Jurassic Park-3D”. It is being replaced by a new theater at the intersections of Kansas & Lakin, just across the street from the old Crest Theater. It will be called the Golden Belt 6 with its grand opening slated for May 31, 2013, and is owned by the same group that closed the Village Cinemas 3.

This theater will be getting a major refurbishing and upgrades soon; 3-D, new seats, and three additional screens are planned: http://www.kake.com/news/headlines/97694479.html

As Christoper said “had a number of operators over the years” for example:

Question marks cause I wouldn’t stake my life on the facts. Anyone want to do the research to check it all out further by all means, have at it!

In the late 1970’s as a twin it was operated by Commonwealth Theaters?

In 1987 it was taken over by United Artists?

In the late 1980’s a 3rd screen was added?

In the early 1990’s it was taken over by Crown Cinema Corporation?

Around 1998 it was taken over by Wallace Theater Corporation?

We know in 2010 it is run by Golden Belt Entertainment Group, LLC. (Chad Sommers & Dennis Call).

Anyone have more info or photos?

This theatre was originally a Commonwealth house, they also operated the Crest and possibly a drive-in, in the Great Bend area.
