This theater was open by 1909. It was located in one storefront of a large two story brick commercial building constructed sometime after 1905, replacing a large livery stable.
The 1909 map shows this theater occupying the eastern third. The 1914 map shows the space greatly expanded, with the central storefront truncated to a small candy store located at the front. The 1914-15 AMPD lists this as the Elite Theatre, misspelling the address as ‘Laken’. By 1926 at the latest, this had become the Lakin Thdeater, with a rather small capacity of 360 listed for such a large space.
In 1928, the building was demolished to be replaced by a fantastic Gothic-deco Masonic temple, which supposedly used some of the skeleton of the theater.
