The Waldorf Theatre was opened October 20, 1926 with the play “Sure Thing”. It was designed by architect Herbert J. Krapp. The over-1,000 seat theatre with seating in orchestra and balcony levels stood on W. 50th Street at 6th Avenue. The Waldorf Theatre operated as a marginally successful legitimate house until fall of 1933.
The orchestra seating area and the stage were converted into retail use, and the balcony was extened forwar to create a movie theatre. The relatively small theatre was no match for its enormous nearby neighbors, the Roxy Theatre and the Radio City Music Hall and lasted as a movie house until 1941, when the entire building was converted over to retail use. The former theatre was razed in 1967-68 to make way for construction of the Rockefeller Center’s Exxon Building.

I can’t believe I never heard of this theatre. Was it directly across the street from the RCMH?
This was already listed as a movie house in the 1937 Film Daily Year Book.
