“The six-screen movie theater complex in Country Square Shopping Plaza on Route 309 shut its doors two weeks ago after months of staff neglect, said Gina Palmonari, general manager at USA Grand Slam Cinema in Vineland, N.J.
The theater closed a few days after the Bucks County Health Department received a complaint about “unclean food and customer areas,” and “urinals not operating,” according to a county health inspection.
The inspection also noted that “many fruit flies” were seen around the soda dispensers and popcorn maker and that the theaters’ floors were unclean."
The article was posted on Aug 24, 2001. Two weeks prior to that was Aug 10, 2001. So that should be listed as the closing date. Much more information, including quotes from the theatre GM in the article
The marquee now reads Dollar General. That along with the Divine Treasures Child Care ( with entrances both on Welsh Road) are the only businesses operating in the former Penypak.
Following up on Howards above comment from friend Jay, the Dollar General interior shows no signs of the interior from the former theatre.
The New Marquee Square pays homage to the Fun Lan in their “about page”
When Fun-Lan opened in January 1950, admission was just 48 cents, and moviegoers gathered to watch The Story of Seabiscuit, starring Shirley Temple. With room for nearly 700 cars, an on-site restaurant, and the popular “Kidde-Lan” playground, it quickly became more than a night at the movies. Families could enjoy dinner delivered right to their car while children played before the show, creating an experience that brought people together long before the opening credits rolled.

March of 2024, announced the reopening of the historic Victoria Theater after an extensive, decade-long restoration, returning grandeur back to the century-old Harlem landmark. Today’s ribbon-cutting formally unveils the cultural arts centerpiece of a broader State-led mixed-use retail and residential redevelopment project at the site on 125th Street in Manhattan, which includes construction of nearly 200 units of housing, more than 100 of which are affordable, and a 211-room hotel – the first full-service hotel opened in Harlem in nearly a century and the tallest building north of Central Park. The cultural component, Apollo Stages at the Victoria Theater, features two new performance spaces with a combined seating capacity of nearly 300, that will be managed by the legendary Apollo Theater Foundation, whose landmark home is located on the same block as the Victoria.
So it’s current function is hotel/apartments.

In doing the above research I saw some discrepancy on the re-opening as the Movie Center 5. I saw some 1986, some 1987 and the ad posted in 2019 is from the Dec 12, 1986 edition of the NY Daily News.
In 2019, this became a Shop Fair Supermarket using 20,000 square feet, and the ground floor & lower level of the Alhambra building. 10,000 on each of those floors.
According to this article, the building was constructed in 1903.

Having spent so much of my younger days here as well as other Budco owned venues, recalling how it was twinned from the single, made into a fourplex and even recalling when the Pathmark near by was purchased to make it into another 4 screens, I’d be curious which information is actually correct as I don’t recall myself.
Looks as though the Roxy Lofts aren’t happening, at least for now. There was signage up in the space for Ayat. This will be a Philadelphia location , they are based in New York City.

Per their site, the “re-opening” attractions are going to be

There’s no website for the Ritz Condos, but the address (according to a search) shows that the address for these condos to be 921 Van Buren Ave, Oxford MS 38655. Therefore it’s plausable that the theatres address was the same.

A man was arrested for allegedly pepper-spraying someone who was using their cellphone during a movie screening at a Burbank theater.
Burbank police identified the suspect as Matthew Ware, 34, of Los Angeles.

According to this, it opened on 3/14/1967 and located near the Plaza Del Toros. It was the last theatre built to screen 3-strip Cinerama.
Unfortunately I don’t think it exists today, checking a map near the Plaza Del Toros, I was unable to see that or any movie theatre around.
Celebrated it’s 25th year in July of 2026.
