Originally opened by Edwards Cinemas on November 22, 1991. It was taken over by Ultrastar Cinemas in 2004. In May 2011 it was taken over by Cinepolis Luxury Cinemas. In mid-November 2026 it was announced by Cinepolis that the theatre would be closing on October 31, 2026.

I am now being told that Cinépolis will be the new exhibitor… in what would appear their first U.S. location!?!? Will it be a Spanish subbed/dubbed site? While there are plenty of Spanish-speakers in the area, the mall is such an upscale / elderly Caucasian type of place that that would be weird. But it might just work.
I think I’ve got it now… As many of you know, Cinépolis has a luxury concept in Mexico… It would make sense, given the upscale mall, that they would do a similar U.S. version a la Gold Class with $25 tickets and alcohol service.

yup. “Cinépolis will close its La Costa Paseo Real movie theater on Oct. 31, the company announced in a notice to rewards members.
The six-screen theater at 6941 El Camino Real, near the Carlsbad City Library, offers reclining leather seats, in-theater food and drink service and a full bar.
The company thanked customers for their support and invited them to return for a final movie night before the closure. The notice did not explain the decision."
