Thanks Cinematreasures for the update for seating. It may have had more seating before it was updated for cinerama but it could not had had over 1000 seats. It wasn’t big enough.Love you site!
The Crescent did have Cinerama for a short while I worked there in the late 70,s. The booth had 3 windows but were not used at that time. We even ran 20 minute reels until we got the hour reels 3 reels on-one we still used the carbon arc projectors we had to keep the stubs of the rods to be recycled.LOEWS was very strict about this it must have been a major expence. Many great times in this house.
After the Tennessee Theater stopped showing movies they had some concerts there, Bonnie Raitt,Ricky Nelson, and others, I used to get in free, I knew some people that worked these shows and some of the Police that were used for security.I was the Asst. Manager at the Loews Crescent just down the street, the cops would let me in because we used to let them in our shows if they showed their badges. This was a great theater. Too bad it only lasted about 27 years.T>V> Vcrs, and suburb houses put all the downtown theaters out of business.
In the opening statement about this theater it needs to be corrected that Loews did not shut down the Crescent in 1972 it was more like 1980-1981, and Martin Theaters took it over for just a short time.Martin Theaters used to run several houses in Tennessee including the Tennessee Theater also on Church Street this was their Flagship house.
I worked at the LOEWS MELROSE in Nashville, Tennessee back in the day. Its marquee letters were metal and we had a very large room that they were stored in. The large letters were very heavy to me when I used to change the marquee of course i was just a skinny teenager back then. I also worked at the LOEWS CRESCENT and LOEWS MADISON but the had lightweight plastic letters.Red at the Crescent and black at the Madison.
If I am ever in Jersey I will check this place out for sure.I worked for Loews in Nashville Tennessee way back then , But our show places were nothing like this one. I am glad it has been resorted instead of torn down. Those were the days.Check out the Loews Crescent, Loews Melrose, adn Loews Madsion Sites.
The 5th avenue was not where Walgreens is. It was a few doors down south from there where the Fifth Third Bank Building is now. Walgreens has been at the end of the Arcade for many many years.
CWalczak,s pitcure of the Crescent you might not be able to see it in the picture but when Loews took over the Theater it had a neon Loews sign in stalled over the west side only if the Crescents vertical it would flash on and off. Church street was one way at that time running east I guess thats why the only put the LOEWS on that one side.Loews ussally had their mane many places on their movie houses.
I worked there when it was a Loews house. It had a marquee on the front of the building of course but also had a 2-sided marquee in the front of the shopping center. The theatre was in the back of the center. I do not remember how may seats it had but it was the newest house that Loews had in Nashville at the time, they Also had the Loews Crescent downtown Nashviile, and the Loews Melrose on Frankin Road.
The new Princess became the Crescent about 1959 it was a cinerama house for a short while. After the Loews Vendome burned Loews got the lease on the Crescent making it the Loews Crescent,830 seats 415 a side.
I was the manager of this theatre when it was a Loews house I was transfered to there from my job at the Loews Crescent,Asst.Manager. Any pitctures of when it was a Loews house would be great. If fact My first real job was as a doorman at this house when i was 15.I also worked at the Loews Madsion at times, it is a church now.
I worked in this theater Loews Crescent in the late 70,s.We had the World Premier of W.W. and the Dixie Dancekings there, a Burt Renolds movie. It had lots of Nashville people in the movie and a shot of the theater is seen in the movie. It had 830 seats 415 on each side, it was a rather plain movie house but I had lots of fun there. I also worked at the Loews Melrose and Loews Madison.

Nice picture must have been remodeled out side looks too new to be so old.
Not much info on this theater but a nice picture from lost memory.Very old school looking!
we have a Regal 17 here in Nashville, I have never been in it but it looks great on the outside!!!!!!it also seems to be busy tough.
THIS HOUSE LOOKED TO NICE TO BE SHOWING"ADULT FILMS"
COOL THAT THE PLACE IS STILL BEING USED.TOO BAD THERE ARE NOT ANY OLD PICTURES,BUT THE NEW ONES LOOK LIKE THEY HAVE KEPT THE HOUSE UP!
Does this theater still use the LOEWS name or has it changed?
Very cool that it still has the original marquee it looks like.
