Wow, It is a small world.I worked at GCC in Augusta and Athens as an Assistant and enjoyed my times with the late Craig Zacker as my manager. I had been in the business probably longer than Zacker having worked at ABC and Plitt theatres. They wanted me to go to Columbia to help out there at the Mall theatre, but didn’t care about it and stayed in Augusta. Of all my Disrict Managers David and Mr.Biggs with ABC/PLitt were the nicest men to serve under, even as an assistant I felt welcomed when he came to town.Hope Mr.Poland is doing okay.

Mike Rogers commented about Thomasville Theatre on Jul 25, 2010 at 3:31 pm

July 13 2008 an article in the paper said how Thomasville was struggling to make it,but when Gas prices were four dollars gallon that year people were shopping and going to MOVIES closer to Home and not spend up to fifty dollars in gas going to Mobile. In fact a picture of the White painted THOMASVILLE Theatre was used in a color picture. The marquee had Friday,Saturday at 7pm “KUNG-FU PANDA” and TONIGHT “GET SMART”. So it was still open while the city of 5,000 folks was bleeding business to Mobile. It took $4.00 gallon of gas to keep the locals at home, wonder how the THOMASVILLE THEATRE is doing now with Gas well under $3.00 a gallon.

We have a Regal 20 plex here in AUgusta that advertises itself as an IMAX theatre, but locals that have seen films there say iT IS NOT IMAX.Why do they let themselves sell IMAX when some of the moviegoers that see films there say it is not IMAX ?

Yeah,I was in management with ABC,PLitt and GCC.My last year with GCC they were making hints that they wanted the Union guys to start the last show of the night and then have the managers secure the booth. Glad I got out in 1983.I could see what was coming, and i wanted no part of running a booth and a theatre too, I was always lucky to have a “LYNN” in all my booths.Really can’t recall any problems with the Union guys in Augusta or Athens Georgia.

Regal should have kept the Union in the booth. But I heard the background checks they do on employees is almost as if you worked for the C.I.A. |this comes from a ex-manager who saw Regal sell out his theatre to something called EPIC CINEMAS}.

And you knew what change over was. These high school projectionists today would not be able to run a carbon-arc lamp.So glad we had union projectionists in the theatres i worked.

Doesn’t make sense to take over a “shabby” theatre.I have seen some of their theatres in smaller towns and they are dumps.

Yeah,JAZZLAND can’t believe they would not let you take pictures. The show might have been enforcing that rule.Lots of roadshows want to no cameras in the building.I am stagehand and see it first hand quite a bit.

I bet it looks like the closed GCC Regency Exchange 8 here in Augusta.Got in through an old exit door spent hours exploring. The booth was just like it was left when they closed for good in the late 90’s.However, a pack of rats was enjoying all the candy and popcorn left in the storage room.
