Please update total seats 1471 six cinemas based on National Amusements timetable, became a triplex on December 14, 1983 and finally six screens on June 22, 1988 (downstairs 3 screens and the remaining 3 screens upstairs a month later).

Please update, only two single screen theatres in Long Island, Bellmore and North Shore Towers on border line of Queens/Nassau. Both single screens own by the same owner.

Please update, theatre closed January 19, 2006 just before AMC took control of Loews Cineplex Entertainment

When the theatre closed, it had Dolby Stereo in both house since 1981 and dts digital sound in the big house. Seats were replaced in 1996

Please update, theatre open with Barefoot in the Park on August 23, 1967 (display ad Posted), theatre became a triplex on February 1, 1980 (The Red and Gold theatre became Theatre 1 and 2 divided up the middle, both screens Mono and Theatre 3 was Dolby Stereo. Dolby was installed in 1977 for Star Wars. The theatre closed on October 19, 2000. When Loews Cineplex took control in 1998, they show mostly move overs from Rockville Center and Fantasy locations prior to its close.

Al Alvarez, if you look in the photos section someone posted a Grand Opening picture of the theatre Barefoot In The Park. The original name was RKO Twin Rockaway Blvd, it was rename Lawrence Triplex when it was closed. The theatre was later operated by RKO Century, Cineplex Odeon and when it closed, Loews Cineplex.

This theatre was independent way before Cineplex Odeon. Please read robboeham comment about this theatre. Cineplex Odeon took over this theatre plus Sayville, Islip and Hampton Arts for a few years. Prior to the merger with Loews, went back independent. Se article and ad in pictures

At rivest256, I had the ad but forgot to post it. Good resource for Nassau/Suffolk theatres is Newsday. You need a proquest subscription through the New York Public Library or any library on the island if you live their.

That why theatres ate reserved seating. I never had a problem, saw about 30 pictures there, only sell only Born on the Fourth of July

The theatre open in 1977 as 4 screens, BS Moss (aka Bow Tie) added two screens in June 1986. Please look at the display ads in the photos. Alamo kept the 6 screens when they took over in 2013.

It should be called Loews Astor Plaza, that was the name as a very popular movie theatre
