News About This Theater

Alamo Drafthouse. Yonkers,NY

The 589-seat Movieland opened on December 16, 1977 with 4-screens. Located in the Central Plaza Mall, this theatre is the next door neighbor to the Clearview Central Plaza Cinemas. It was operated by B.S. Moss Enterprises who added two more screens on June 13, 1986. Surprisingly this UA-Regal house is still well maintained both in and out.

It was closed for renovations in July 2012, and was taken over by the Alamo Drafthouse chain and reopened August 3, 2013.

as of august 2020 this theater is boarded up and closed. it shut down in march 2020 due to covid. its future is uncertain. its outside is forelawn with portions covered with graffiti. its located in a somewhat depressed area behind a strip mall.

Response to BearMount Not sure what you’re talking about. Have you ever been there before? The front of the theatre is all glass, I assume it was covered up for safety reasons. There is zero graffiti. The outside is not forlorn, it just seems that way because…the theatre is temporarily closed. All theatres look this way right now! It is not a depressed area. The restaurants and other stores are all open. I am quite certain that my Drafthouse will reopen as soon as it’s possible.

The theatre open in 1977 as 4 screens, BS Moss (aka Bow Tie) added two screens in June 1986. Please look at the display ads in the photos. Alamo kept the 6 screens when they took over in 2013.

It’s probably the nicest theater in all of Westchester.
