    Need Partner For Multiplex Theatre

I am looking for a working or silent partner to help in a very nice theater project. A small investment is required but very little. I mainly want someone that loves theaters and wants to be a part of a very good one. You do not have to have experience in the theater business at all but a desire to learn, grow and make some money and have fun at the same time.

Send an email with your name and phone number. I will contact you as soon as I get your information. The theater’s location is in the central midwest, Iowa MN area.

    Thanks!

  • Bow Tie Cinemas acquires Reston Town Center 13

RESTON, VA — As of Friday, 4/1, Bow Tie Cinemas assumed operation of the Reston Town Center 13 Cinemas. Bow Tie will soon perform a phased reconstruction of the theater which will include all stadium seating, digital projection with 3D, bigger screens, all new concessions, all new amenities and decor, and brand new rest rooms.

The theater construction began in the late 80’s by Cineplex Odeon, who never finished it, so National Amusements stepped in and completed the 11-plex and opened it in 1990. Theaters 1 & 2 were ‘twinned’ creating 13 screens. In the reconstruction, Bow Tie will ‘de-twin’ the two theaters, turning the facility back to an 11 screen operation. For the past 16 months, Rave Motion Pictures operated the theater.

Cinema Plaza closes; last remaining theater in Hunterdon county

RARITAN TWP., NJ — The Cinema Plaza, which opened in 1981 as a conversion from a former automobile dealership and barn, closed on March 30. Originally opened a a five-plex, a sixth screen was added in 1992. Rumors of its closing had surfaced repeatedly over the last few years. The theater’s owner is looking at financing options to build a multi-venue family entertainment complex nearby that would include a new cinema.

Reflecting on Cinema Plaza, Monsport said “I am very grateful for the wonderful memories created by our theatre patrons. The movie theatre exhibition business has changed dramatically in the past five years. It is no longer feasible to operate a theatre without the latest stadium seating, digital and 3D equipment. To bring this theatre to those standards would cost millions.”

  • Lake Theatre in Oak Park turns 75

OAK PARK, IL — The seventy-fifth anniversary of the opening of the Lake Theatre will be marked by a special ceremony, theater tours, and showings of classic films each month until the end of the year. Opened in 1936 in the art deco style, the theater was acquired in 1981 by Classic Cinemas, which converted the theater over time to seven screens while retaining some of the original design elements and using some salvaged remnants of other theaters in the Chicago area.

“The investment that they have made in the theater has been very important in demonstrating the strength of downtown Oak Park,” said Village President David Pope.

April 11 marks the 75th anniversary of the Lake Theatre’s opening. They plan to celebrate with a ceremonial tearing of an oversized movie ticket by Pope, along with a birthday cake and two 75-cent screenings of the first movie ever shown at the Lake — a British romantic comedy called “The Ghost Goes West”— at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m.

  • Fain Theater for sale

WETUMPKA, AL — The gutted Fain is for sale, $150k. The structure itself is sound. Do a search of the theaters guide section for pics of the place. Also see the WAKA-TV website which featured a story on the place today. It opened in the 1930’s. Wetumpka is a sleepy town across the river from Montgomery. It was featured in the movie “Big Fish”. No other theaters in town, I don’t think. Looks like a really cool project for the energetic buyer!

  • Boulevard Theater reunions

Some one-dozen former ushers at the Boulevard Theater in Revere, MA meet every five years since graduating from Revere High School in 1946.

The scheduled 1951 gathering was cancelled since World War II had ended and most of the ushers were overseas concluding their service in the Armed Forces.

At the most recent gathering – in addition to the usual reminiscing about quelling the regular Friday night, second balcony confrontations with groups of exercise and stable boys, jockeys and horse trainers from the nearby Suffolk Downs race track – a special recollection is usually resurrected regarding the strange and coincidental reunification
of four former ushers – in Tokyo, Japan.

  • Spain’s cinema review 2010

The Spanish Ministry of Culture published lately the cinema and exhibition statistics for the last year.

The number of cinema sites grew with nine new theaters to 860. The actual screen number is 4 080 (two screens less over December 31, 2009). The statistics neither included the number of digital screens nor 3D-capable screens in the country. According to Media Salles, a project operating within the European Union’s MEDIA Programme, Spain had 750 digital screens at the end of 2010, almost tripling the 2009’s count, but still less than one fifth of all the screens.

Every major movie market reports some specific statistics. Among those from Spain are the highest grossing screens of the country, but without concrete revenue numbers. The king of this indicator is the auditorium number 25 in the world largest theatre Kinepolis Madrid. In the top 10 Kinepolis has three more screens with screen #6 in Madrid at the eight position and screens #23 and #24, both in Valencia, at the ninth and tenth position. The second highest grossing screen in Spain is the winner for last four years, an IMAX screen located in Barcelona. A little surprise is on the fifth position, a screen located on the holiday island Tenerife (Yelmo Meridiano, screen #1).

Hartford to get Luxury Cinema with Grill

HARTFORD, CT — This is the cinema I thought we were getting in West Hartford. I am looking foward to having another choice to see movies in the area.

Spotlight Theatres, which operates two venues in Georgia, said it plans a multiscreen venue at Front Street, across the street from the Connecticut Convention Center. The theaters will include stadium seating, high-back chairs, digital projection and an accompanying grill where patrons may order dinner.
