Group sets sights on National Register listing for shuttered Pittsfield theater
PITTSFIELD, IL — The Zoe Preservation Society is trying to raise funds for a study to figure out what it will take to make the theatre operational again. They aim to bring the Zoe Theatre back as a cinema and get it on the National Register of Historic Places.

Lerner wins preservation award
ELKHART, IN — Indiana Landmarks has named the recently restored {Lerner Theatre](/theaters/2462) as its winner of the Cook Cup for Outstanding Preservation. It reopened a year ago following an $18 million restoration.

Way-Bak reopens for 5th Anniversary season
Lost Creek, KY, near Hazard, may never be the same after the Way-Bak-Wyn Twin Drive-in theatre reopens on Friday and Saturday, May 11 and 12. According to Wilhemina Fugate, V.P. and General Manager of 3C Entertainment, Inc. who operates the rustic drive-in, “we’re pulling out all the stops for our 5th season re-opening”.
Patrons will be treated to live music by Kayla Beth Smith and Southern Chaos. Both groups will perform at 7 PM and during intermissions both nights. Five features will be presented on both screens including: “Zombieland”, “The Devil Inside”, “Dream House”, “Scream 4” and “The Thing”.

Cinerama Dome plays seven fan favorites
HOLLYWOOD, CA — Arclight Cinemas' Cinerama Dome Theatre in Hollywood will play seven classic films on the big screen, May 11 through May 17. Films include 3 MGM roadshows, “Ben Hur”, “Doctor Zhivago”, and “Gone with the Wind” and four films directed by Stanley Kubrick, “Barry Lyndon”, “Full Metal Jacket”, “The Shining” and “Lolita”. All seven films will be presented in 4K digital.

Davis Theatre wins $25K in contest
HIGGINSVILLE, MO — The rally to save the Davis Theatre has hit a new high because of a grant. The theatre won second place in the Reader’s Digest “We Hear You America” contest and $25,000 towards upgrades.

RENTON, WA — The Renton Civic Theatre is celebrating 25 years as a presenter of live theatre. They want to celebrate the theatre’s past before that too and are looking for pictures from its day as a movie house.

Highland Park closes movie theater
HIGHLAND PARK, IL — The Highland Park Theatre was closed over the weekend due to fire violations. The future of the building is unclear as the city has been looking for suitors for awhile.

AMC said to be talking to Chinese buyer
Wanda Group, one of China’s largest theater owners, could be purchasing AMC. Talks have intensified recently between the two companies after negotiations for over a year. Such an acquisition could drastically change the cinema marketplace as well as China’s power over the American film industry.
