    Carmike closes Cinema 8

    LEXINGTON, NC — Lexington is without a cinema yet again with the closing of Cinema 8. The 30 year old cinema has seen declining crowds for years and locals hope another operator can come in and make it thrive again.

  • Ocean Walk merchants welcome new movie operator

    DAYTONA BEACH, FL — With new operator Paragon stepping in, hopefully the fortunes will turn for the Ocean Walk 10. The complex it’s located in has been in foreclosure since 2010 but Paragon plans installing new seats and a restaurant.

    New multiplexes coming to Wilmington and Epping

    WILMONGTON, DE — A 15-screen theater with a full IMAX screen is coming to Riverfront Wilmington. The new development will feature a Westin hotel as well.

  • Cinemark announces new 12-Screen theatre at Rouse Properties' Mall

    LAKELAND, FL — The Lakeland Square Mall is about to jump to the head of the line in Central Florida moviegoing. Cinemark has announced plans to build a new 12-screen theatre there featuring their NextGen brand with state-of-the-art amenities including one of their XD Extreme auditoriums.

    CAS of Dayton seeking a venue

    DAYTON, OH — The road back has been arduous for CAS, Cinema Arts Society of the Greater Dayton Area, since a major theft of funds and demolition of their Page Cinema Arts Theatre (formerly the Page Manor Twin Theatre) last year. However, the dedicated team headed by Executive Director, Linda E. Leas has managed to keep the CAS ship afloat. According to Leas, “we are rebuilding our treasury and have added new life to our Board of Trustees. We are now ready to take the next step, a permanent home/venue for our project. A theatre would be ideal; however, we are willing to consider other facilities that may be adaptable to the presentation of an ongoing film series and a home base for our non-profit corporation.”

    MANLIUS, NY — The Manlius Art Cinema is joining theaters around the world as it converts to digital. The Manlius, Central New York’s oldest theatre is a small single-screen so this marks significant transition for them.

    JACKSON, MS — Jackson residents can celebrate that their beloved Pix Capri Theatre is coming back. Two more screens are being added with the whole project slated to get off the ground next year.

  • Movie magic to leave home for?

    The Wall Street Journal reported that some new technology has been rolling out lately that could widen the gap between the theatre and home viewing experiences. Dolby will be testing out its Atmos audio system with Pixar’s “Brave” this summer and “The Hobbit” will be the first film to be presented at 48 frames per second, a new digital high point.
