LINCOLN, NE — Jim McKee’s piece in the Journal News looks at the very early history of Lincoln’s cinemas. Some theatres were located in the former town of Havelock which had its own O Street.

Movie theater purchase loan granted by council
CARMI, IL — The City Council has matched funds with locals Michael and Tambria Fox to take over the Showtime Cinemas. They plan to renovate the theatre and increase its operating hours.

Alamo Drafthouse Cinema appears poised to take over Mainstreet
KANSAS CITY, MO — Alamo Drafthouse appears to be diving into the Kansas City market with a takeover of the Mainstreet Theatre. A deal seems imminent after AMC has hinted at parting ways with the theatre. Alamo would need a little time to fully convert the theatre to its standards.

US 23 Drive-in Theatre may buy Fenton Cinema
FENTON, MI — The Fenton Cinema, closed since 2008, may reopen soon. The management of the US 23 Drive-in Theatre has made an offer for the shuttered cinema according to the real estate company handling the sale.
A new Facebook page for the Fenton Cinema was created here on May 18th to gauge reaction which has been positive with at least 500 likes. If the sale is successfully completed, the closed cinema will be extensively renovated and receive a new name.

Art Van Furniture buys former movie theater near Toledo
HOLLAND, OH — Art Van Furniture has purchased the site of the former Super Cinemas and now waiting on approval to raze it. They’re projecting their new store to open next spring.

NCG reopens Powder Springs 10
MARIETTA, GA — The dormant Powder Springs 10 reopened the other week thanks to Neighborhood Cinema Group. The chain invested in the theatre which now has stadium seating and 3D capabilities.
