The Village Theatre opened on July 18, 1969 by LAM Amusement Co. At that time LAM ran all the movie theatres in Rome. The Village Theatre featured rocking back seats with wide aisles. It opened as a single screen and went through a remodel in 1983 that turned the theatre into a triplex.

The Village 3 Theatre has gone through numerous ownerships int its history, LAM, MCGuire, Central Valley, and Cobb Theatres. By 2023 it had closed and become an Aldi supermarket.

My name is Darwin Bell and the Village Theatre holds a special place in my memory. My mother, Mary Bell, became the manager of the Village Theatre in 1970 and is still the manager today, 34 years later. I also worked at the Village from 1970 until 1978.
The Village today is a four house theatre. The original house with the rocking back chairs has recently been remodeled and is now an upscale cinema pub which the owner named MB’s in honor of Mary Bell for her long years of service. MB’s shows first run movies, college and professional football games and host other events. Thanks for bringing back some great memories.

The Rome News-Tribune of July 31, 1963, reported that the Village Three Theatres had set its opening date as August 12 (scan at Google News.) The expansion had been accomplished by converting an existing building, formerly an A&P market, into two new auditoriums, each seating 252. The project had been designed by the Columbus, Georgia, firm of Brookbank, Murphy & Shields.
