- Feb 17, 2010 — Save the Watson Theatre!
- Sep 21, 2009 — Watsontown theater closing
Opened on May 30, 1940, the Watson Theatre was built to replace the Lyceum Theatre, which burned down 6 years before.
The theater’s interior features a 30 foot silk damask wall, a state of the art sound system (Dolby Digital SRD - EX), and original 490 seats (with love seats on every other row).
Outside, a restored neon marquee shone brightly over the Watson Theatre, letting all know the theater was open for business.
Sadly, the Watson Theatre was closed in September 2009.

Its really a great theatre! Excellent ticket prices, freindly staff, and as mentioned above, one of the finest sound systems in the area. You literally feel the sounds! The theatre also sports an antique ice cream parlor, and frequently hosts special events and costume contests! The Watson Theatre is definatley my favorite video house in the great state of Pennsylvania!!

What a charming little theatre! Is it about to close? Sure hope not though a down economy and the “outside of town” multiplexes do not help matters! Such a shame as the multiplexes have NO CHARM!
Eventually there will be no local theaters left. Certainly a shame.
Also read that there are only about 300 single screen theatres left in the country. I would like to think there are more than 300 left as so many are listed on CT as either open or closed and not demolished.
Where is Watsonville located in the State of PA as I might be able to see this theatre if it is within a comfortable driving distance?
It’s about 65 miles SW of Scranton, and about 57 miles N of Harrisburg, off of I-80. (BTW, the place name is Watsontown).
Ok and thanks for the correction as so many PA towns end in “ville”, but not this one!
The Watson Theatre closed in September, 2009.
“I’D RATHER BE RICH” with Sandra Dee opens Feb.6 1965 for three days.Very Nice looking theatre pity it closed.
