Charles Bley opened his Colonial Theatre on July 4, 1912 in a building formerly occupied by “The Fashion”, a locally owned clothing store. The Colonial Theatre launched with three pictures: “Squatter’s Child”, “Those Were Happy Days”, and “Views of the Hudson”, on grand opening day.

Bley sold the Colonial Theatre to Shelocta merchant Willian Carnahan in April 1913, who operated the Colonial Theatre for the rest of time until its January 25, 1919 closure after the building was sold to the Fashion Store Company. A different clothing store, also named “The Fashion”, moved into the space occupied by the Colonial Theatre and made a big return to its original location.
