Located in Valadares, a former civil parish in the municipality of Vila Nova de Gaia, a district of Porto. The Cine-Teatro Eduardo Brazão opened on 12th February 1928. It was designed by architect Alexandre Marta da Cruz, a great promoter of local development, who arrived in the town in 1921 from Africa.
The building has a remarkable smooth, Streamline Moderne style façade, with a ribbon window bending round the corner, and was inspired by the Odeon Theatre in Porto.
The auditorium was much altered during the 1960’s; closure as a cinema came at the end of the 1970’s.
The building lay unused in a state of ruin until September 1992, when it was acquired by the Vila Nova de Gaia City Council and renovated by the architect Joaquim Massena.
It re-opened, as a concert hall, on 19th May 2007. The auditorium comprises stalls (with 241 seats) and a 61-seat circle. The 70sq metre stage has a 13.5sq metre orchestra pit.
