The Amboy Theatre opened in 1935 and seated 325. It was operated by the Marchesi Brothers chain until it closed in 1966.

In 1963, the Marchesi brothers owned the Amboy. August Marchesi was president and film buyer. Other Marchesi theaters in Illinois were the Times in Savanna and the Town in Prophetstown.
OK, that’s a little redundant from Chuck’s comment at the top. Apologies. Blame it on anticipation of a long holiday weekend.
Several years ago, I saw a Bronze plaque on the front of an old Bld. in Amboy on Main St. Home of The first Carson Pirie Scott store.
Address was 242 E. Main Street. Amboy Food & Liquor is now on that site, which was previously a hardware store in the 2013 street view. The 5 buildings to the left of where the Amboy Theatre once stood remain as they appear in the old photo.
