The New Family Theatre was located in a very wide two-story brick commercial block which was constructed sometime between 1902 and 1910. The 1910 map also shows the theatre in operation, but makes no mention of movies. It is listed as a movie theatre in the 1914-1915 edition of American Motion Picture Directory. The 1918 Sanborn shows ‘Moving Pictures & Vaudeville’ being offered here. It seems to have been the sole occupant of the building.
No later maps are available, but this has been closed for many years. Aside from a very dreary remodel to the ground floor, the building is in good shape, and is home to a restaurant and offices.

There was presumably a Family theater for this to be a ‘New’ version of, but I’m not sure where that might have been.
There was news about the Family Theatre in the November 13, 1915 issue of Moving Picture World: “DIXON, ILL.—L. G. Rorer, of Chicago, who recently purchased the Family theater, has installed a $5,000 pipe organ.”
The Family Theatre was also mentioned in the December 6, 1913 MPW, along with a house called the Princess Theatre.
