Stadium Theatre

This theatre appears on the 1913 Sanborn, in an old three story storefront that was constructed sometime between 1886 and 1891 (likely shortly after the disastrous flood of 1889). The rear half of this building was only 2 stories.

The map calls it: ‘The Stadium Moving Picture Theatre’ and notes that it is equipped with an ‘Asbestos Machine Box’. This appears to have been located about ¼ of the way back from the street, offset to the right.

This building latter suffered a very severe midcentury remodel to turn it into a Kinney shoe store. It later became a shabby little antique store. The building has been vacant for many years, and the spectacular moderne Kinney terrazzo entry has acquired a thick coating of urine and vomit.
