In Pollok, a suburb to the south of Glasgow city centre, the Silverburn shopping and leisure centre opened on 25th October 2007. It replaced the 75 acre Pollok centre and was anchored by Tesco, Next, Marks & Spencer and Debenhams. It was designed by Building Design Partnership.
Expansion between 2014 and 2015 saw the construction of a multiplex cinema and a number of restaurants. Rather uniquely, this area is badged as a “Winter Garden and Cinema”, in which a wide, curved walkway, with plenty of faux greenery, beneath huge sloping glass panels, leads between the restaurants to the escalators leading up to the cinema.
The Cineworld opened on 26th June 2015. It has the first ‘Superscreen’ auditorium (which seats 470) in Scotland, which is 41ft high and 74ft wide, and has a 57-speaker Dolby Atmos sound system.

I have just uploaded a photo taken from Cineworld publicity showing one of the auditoria with just a 1.85 screen.
Despite most films nowadays being made in Scope, Cineworld sadly continues to build new cinemas with these 1.85 screens necessitating that Scope movies have to be letterboxed. This is never what Scope was designed for. To me, this dilutes the whole cinema experience. It ceases to be a cinema and becomes just a large TV set.
