Located on The South Side of Glasgow in the Shawlands district. The Embassy Cinema was opened 3rd February 1936 by legendary music hall star Harry Lauder. The opening film was Ruby Keeler & Al Jolson in “Casino de Paris”. It was part of the Harry Winocour circuit. The architect was James McKissack and it was equipped with a Western Electric(WE) sound system. Soon after its opening it was taken over by the Glasgow Photo Playhouse company who operated the La Scala Cinema on Sauchiehall Street in the city centre.
The Embassy Cinema was closed and demolished in May 1965 and a Shoprite supermarket was built on the site, (in 2022 occupied by the Sir John Stirling Maxwell pub), as part of the Shawlands Shopping Centre.

Opened by the legendary music hall star Harry Lauder, the first flim to be screened was Ruby Keeler & Al Jolson in “Casino de Paris”.
After demolition in May 1965, the site was redeveloped as a Shoprite supermarket.
