Located in Cardonald district to the West of Glasgow. The Aldwych Cinema was opened on 16th April 1938 with Errol Flynn in “The Adventures of Robin Hood”. It was built for George Smith and James Welsh. It was equipped with a Western Electric(WE) sound system. This huge suburban cinema was designed by architect James McKissack and was considered one of Glasgow’s finest cinemas.
On 7th January 1950 it was sold to the Singleton Cinemas chain and was re-named Vogue Cinema. It was closed in 1963 and was converted into a bingo club, but this was not successful, and the building was sold to Safeway and they demolished it to build a supermarket on the site. In 2015 it is an Aldi supermarket.
