The Picture Palace Heckmondwike in June 2005

Located in Heckmondwike, Yorkshire. The Picture Palace was open by 1927 when it was operated by Walter Goodall. It was equipped with a AWH sound system. It had closed by 1964 it was operated by the Leeds based Star Cinemas circuit as a cine-bingo operation. From around 1966 it became a Star Bingo Club, which was still in operation as a Walkers Bingo Club in 2015. It had closed by 2020.

A cutting seen in Huddersfield states the bingo club began in 1964.

The Picture Palace is still listed in the 1966 KYB as being operated by Star Cinemas of Leeds, seating 649 with a Western Electric sound system. I suspect that the 1964 bingo advertising was Cine-Bingo, where both cinema and bingo operated in the same premises on a shared basis. Star often did this to test the waters before committing to bingo full-time.
