Located in Heckmondwike, to the northwest of Dewsbury, West Riding of Yorkshire. The Pavilion Cinema was under construction on 28th August 1913 under the proposed name of Empire Cinema. It was owned by the West Riding Picture Pavilions Ltd., which had been set up in 1913 by a group of local businessmen, including the architect of the cinema, Harry Stead. On 12th December 1914 it was reported as “another recent opening, with seats for 800 and the name Pavilion Cinema. So for some reason the name was changed before its opening. It had a 30 feet wide proscenium and a stage 11 feet deep. There were three dressing rooms. Around 1930 it was equipped with a British Thomson-Houston(BTH) sound system. It presented cine-variety. Around 1944, it was re-named New Western Pavilion Cinema.
Always independently operated, it was closed in January 1963 and was demolished in June 1964.
