Located in Bellshill, a mining village on the border with Mossend, Lanarkshire. The Alhambra Cinema was opened in 1923. In 1925, it was managed by George Palmer, and he operated it as part of his Associated G.P. Cinemas chain until it closed. In 1929, the Pavilion Cinema became the first in rural Lanarksire to be equipped with talkies when it screened Al Jolson in “The Jazz Singer” in 1929, immediately after its Glasgow screenings at the Coliseum. The cinema was equipped with Western Electric sound system.
The Alhambra Cinema was still open in 1966, but eventually was converted into a bingo club. This had closed by 1997, and the building was standing empty. It was later demolished.
